Time:9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. 
Extended hours available:  7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. per week
                                &  4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. per week        
Where: Camp Mariposa
615 E. Mariposa, Altadena
Fee:  $140 per girl, per week
$25.00 for extended hours in the morning; $25.00 for extended hours in the evening.

Camp Mariposa 2008

Dream Weavers  (June 16-20, 2008)

Follow the native drums to the Camp Mariposa Tipis!  This week the girls will try Native American foods, crafts, games and listen to stories of old.  The girls will try their hands at basketry, totem poles and dream catchers.  Brownie Girl Scouts will earn the Earth Is Our Home Try-it and Junior Girl Scouts will earn the Outdoor Creativity Badge.  From Girl Scouts of Beaver and Lawrence Counties, Pennsylvania,  Brownies will earn the Native American Lore Try-it and Junior will earn the Exploring Native Americans Badge.

Arty Smarty
  (June 23-27, 2008)

Art Smart?  This week at Camp Mariposa girls will work with different media; chalk, pastels, markers and charcoal.  Girls will create their own mural, try painting with no brushes, build their own city and create an art gallery for a family visit at the end of the week.  Brownie Girl Scouts will earn Building Arts and Colors and Shapes Try-its and Junior Girl Scouts will work on Prints and Graphics and the Drawing and Painting Badge.

California Here I Come!
  (June 30-July 3, 2008: Pro-rated week)       
California’s Gold!  America’s Patriots!  This will be the emphasis for these four days of July in preparation for our national holiday on July 4th. The girls will delve into our California heritage and explore what patriotism means in today’s world.   Brownie Girl Scouts will earn the Wave the Flag Try-it and the California Try-it from Girl Scouts – San Diego-Imperial Girl Scouts.  Junior Girl Scouts will earn the California Badge from San Diego-Imperial Girl Scouts and the United We Stand Badge.

Under the Big Top
  (July 7-11, 2008)

AND NOW! PERFORMING IN THE CENTER RING!  The clowns, the jugglers, the tight rope walkers, the lion tamers, the elephants!  What will your circus talent be?   Brownie Girl Scouts will earn the Me and My Shadow Try-it.  Juniors will earn the Theatre Badge. Girls will create their own distinctive clown face and costumes as they earn Clowning Around Try-it and Badge from Girl Scouts of Delaware-Raritan Council.

Animal Antics
  (July 14–18, 2008)

Animal lovers unite!  This is the week to learn all you ever wanted to know about animals and their antics!  This week will include some special animal guests as the girls learn about animals and their unique ways.  Brownie Girl Scouts will earn the Animals Badge and Junior Girl Scouts will learn about their pets while working on the Pet Care Badge.

Rock Star Divas 
(July 21-25, 2008)

Rock around the clock as the divas try their hand at making music, both vocal and instrumental!  Girls will make their own musical instruments and learn some favorite Girl Scout songs during the week.  Junior Girl Scouts will earn the Music Fan and Making Music Badges.  Brownie Girl Scouts will work on the Sounds of Music and Making Music Try-its.

Island Hopper
  (July 28- August 1, 2008)

Aloha!  Travelers this week will island hop each day to a different spot on the globe!  One day to Australia where the girls will learn about the Aboriginal peoples, while in New Zealand the girls will learn about the Maori culture.  Visiting Japan will bring them skills in origami and in the Philippines they will learn the native dance Tinikling.  And, of course, in Hawaii the girls will make leis and learn the hula!   Junior Girl Scouts will earn Celebrating People and My Heritage Badges, while the Brownie Girl Scouts will earn the People of the World and the Around the World Try-its.

Your Story
  (August 4-8, 2008)
What is YOUR story?   This week at camp the girls will put together their own camp storybook, learn to be a storyteller, interview an author and make their own books.  Girls will do a word web and collage.  Junior Girl Scouts will earn the Women’s Stories and Now and Then Stories from Around the World.  Brownie wordsmiths will earn the Her Story Try-it and the Follow the Reader Patch.

Olympiad 2008
  (August 11-15, 2008)

Camp Mariposa teams will celebrate the Olympics along with the competing teams in Beijing!  Girls will learn jump rope skills, along with throwing and catching, dribbling and passing and how to kick the ball!  Girls will practice good sportsmanship at their own version of the Olympics at the end of the week.   Junior Girl Scouts will work on the Fit N Fun Patch and the Healthy Relationship Badge.  Brownie Girl Scouts will spend time on the Girl Sports and My Body Try-its.

Don't Bug Me!
  (August 18-22, 2008)

EEEWWW!  Gross!  Bugs!   Not really…they are quite fascinating when you get to know them better!  Girls will learn about body parts, harmful and helpful bugs, make a special snack inspired by bug friends and design their own unique bug!  Brownie Girl Scouts will earn the Plants Try-it and Junior Girl Scouts will earn the Plants and Animals Badges.  All girls will earn the Incredible Insects Try-it and Badge from the Black Diamond Council, West Virginia.
