Summer Camps Conclude on a High Note Over 900
girls enjoyed "A New Adventure Every Week"

Girl Scouts - Mt. Wilson Vista Council's Summer
Day Camps concluded the week of August 21, 2007, but memories of a jam-packed summer of fun and learning will remain
for the girls who attended from across the San Gabriel Valley.
The week-long
themed camps have been underway since mid-June, offering something for every interest. Open to all girls, ages 6-17,
campers engaged in everything from traditional outdoor camping activities to playing quidditch to making jewelry and
even creating an archeological dig. "Pirate Queens" was the best attended camp of the year!
With the theme “Bird Brains,” the final week of camp ended on a high
note with a visit from a special guest, “The Professor,” an owl from Whittier Narrows Nature Center. Campers
made birdfeeders, birdhouses, and even bird jewelry. They learned about endangered species, feathers and bird habitats.
Eight-year-old twins Aubrey and Erin from Pasadena (pictured above) attended all 10 weeks of day camp and
they're sorry to see it end, but equally excited for what's underway for next year. "Every week we did
something really fun," said Aubrey, whose favorite camp was "Star Wars." Her sister, Erin, reported that
she "met a lot of new friends" and particularly enjoyed the "Hogwarts" camp where they made
magic wands, wizard hats and sorcerer's stones.
Girls enjoyed “A
New Adventure Every Week,” with exciting special events such as a visitor from JPL with a solar telescope, a fencing
demonstration, learning to Line Dance and Stomp Dance, a visit from a storyteller who told tales of Old England, a visit from
a puppet master, and learning to lasso a rope and build a shelter.
Another highlight
included visits from several long-time Girl Scouts from the Silver Trefoils, who told the campers about Girl Scouting in “the
olden days.”
As the 2007 Summer Day Camps wind down, plans are already underway for next year.
