More Than 200 Girl Scouts Receive Silver Award
More than 200 Girl Scouts from Mt. Wilson Vista Council were honored in May, 2007, for their commitment to bettering their lives and the lives of others.  These eighth and ninth grade Girl Scouts were awarded the Girl Scout Silver Award, the second-highest recognition in Girl Scouting, at a ceremony held May 17, 2007 in Temple City.

During the ceremony, Brenda Berg, CEO of Mt. Wilson Vista Council, commended the 204 girls representing troops from across the San Gabriel Valley.  “The Girl Scout Silver Award recognizes the efforts of Cadette girls in a wide range of Girl Scout experiences and their commitment to personal leadership development and to improving the lives of others,” Berg said.  She congratulated this year’s recipients for completing projects that ranged from a city-wide film festival, to collections of needed items for homeless shelters and hospitals, to establishing a library filled with books for a school’s classrooms in need.

The Silver award requires a minimum of 30 hours of planning and execution of a project to benefit the community.  To earn this award, girls must also complete extensive leadership and career exploration activities.
