Juliette Low World Friendship Fund Troops and Service Units throughout the council identify
unique and fun ways to support the Juliette Low World Friendship Fund (JLWFF) which raises money for international travel
opportunities, to promote Girl Scouting in new and emerging countries, to help maintain our Girl Scout World Centers, and
so much more. Here are a few fun ideas to consider: - Host an International Tasting Bee (usually held in conjunction with World
Thinking Day in February). Girls or troops represent different countries, bring a dish from that country, and guests pay a
small amount for each sample.
- Host a Juliette Low Birthday Party (October 31 is Juliette Gordon Low’s actual birthday).
In lieu of gifts, small contributions can be given to the JLWFF.
- Some troops ask girls to bring change from home to the meeting
and find creative ways to contribute, i.e. give a few cents for every inch of their height. Another leader created a “Things
I’m Thankful For” worksheet. Girls went through this list as a group activity and whenever an item applied to
them, they contributed the appropriate amounts, i.e. a warm bed may be worth 2 cents, having your own pet may be worth 3 cents,
etc.
- Come up with your own creative ideas to celebrate & share your JLWFF stories with us here at the council.
However you choose to celebrate, please remember to send JLWFF contributions by June 1 to the council (not GSUSA)
at: JLWFF Girl Scouts – Mt. Wilson Vista Council 101 E. Wheeler Avenue Arcadia, CA 91006
The council then
forwards all funds raised by troops in Mt. Wilson Vista Council to GSUSA once each year. All troops that participate, at any
amount, will receive a thank you letter from the council recognizing girls’ philanthropic support! Thanks & have
fun!
