Junior Girl Scout Troop 772 Helps Heal the Bay
On Saturday, March 15, 2008,
Junior Girl Scout Troop 772 from La Cañada Flintridge participated in a beach clean up for Heal the Bay.
The event was held at Dockwiller Beach near El Segundo. Staff from Heal the Bay taught the girls
safety methods for cleaning the beach. Then, the Troop spent the morning collecting and cataloging the debris found
in the sand. They cleaned the beach of hundreds of bottle caps, styrofoam, plastic, drinking straws, wrappers, etc.
The Troop is working to earn their Bronze Award, which will focus on the need for keeping the Santa Monica Bay
environmentally safe. After the beach clean up, the Troop visited Heal the Bay's aquarium located on the
Santa Monica Pier. There, the Troop viewed sea life and learned more about environmental issues facing the Santa Monica
Bay.
