Volunter Roles and Position Descriptions
Troop Leader, Co-leader and Assistant Leader: Troop Leader and Co-leader are responsible for:
- Meeting with the troop as scheduled for 1-2 hours per session.
- Completing
the Orientation Interview, Topics and Traditions training and appropriate level training within three months of starting the troop.
- Planning and carrying
out troop program with girls (service projects, arts and crafts, camping, field trips, and other troop-related activities.)
- Communicating with the Troop Committee Chairman to coordinate plans that involve adults
(transportation, resource people, product sales, Parent Partnership.
- Attending,
or ensuring a representative attends, Service Unit Meetings.
- Attending annual training sessions.
Assistant Leader: Service Unit Management
Team Positions: - Manager: Manages the geographic area to ensure that troops/groups are organized, registered and maintained.
Coordinates the work of the Service Team ensuring that direct services are provided to troops/groups and individual girls
in the Service Unit's geographical area.
- Secretary: Facilitates the work of the Service Unit by notifying members of meetings, taking minutes and attendance and keeping the Service Unit Manager apprised of troops who
do not attend regularly.
- Treasurer: Monitors the finances of the Service Unit, collecting and dispensing funds as needed.
- Registrar:
Properly registers all troops and groups in the Service Unit in a timely manner. Monitors and updates additions and changes in girl and adult registration.
- School Organizer: Organizes and helps maintain troops, extends membership to all girls and adults, and places girls in troops throughout
the year.
- Cookie Chair: Facilitates and manages the Cookie Sale for troops in the Service Unit.
- Recognition Chair: Assists the Service Unit Manager in distributing, reviewing and awarding Service Unit Adult Recognitions and in nominating individuals for GSUSA national awards.
- Training Coordinator: Announces and promotes
training sessions provided by the Council, tracks training sessions attended, assists the Recognition Chair in determining eligibility for
the Leader award pin.
- Family Partnership
Chair: Facilitates Family Partnership involvement from families and troops within the Service Unit.
- Event Coordinator: Oversees the planning, implementation and evaluation of Service Unit events.
- Level Consultant: Advises leaders on program activities and to provides support and encouragement.
- Historian:
Maintains records, photographs and newspaper clippings
that preserve the history of the Service Unit.
- Welcome Wagon: Welcomes new leaders and/or volunteers to the Service Unit.
- Delegates/Alternates: Represents the views of the Service Unit members to the Board of Directors regarding policy matters affecting the Council and reports to the Service Unit on proposed plans, policies and other matters
under consideration by the Board of Directors.
- Nominating and Resource Committee Chair: Supervises
the Service Unit Nominating and Resource Committee to ensure a slate of nominees for delegates to the council is elected.
Parents/Guardians Adult support is an important
part of the Girl Scout program. As a parent or guardian, you will be involved in the following ways: - Sign the parent/guardian consent form and pay the $10 national registration fee.
- Make sure that your Girl Scout arrives and is picked up on time for all troop meetings and for other activities.
- Provide troop dues and additional funds when requested for events and
activities.
- Help your Girl Scout carry through with her commitment
to the Girl Scout program.
- Attend troop functions when invited.
Show your Girl Scout you are proud of her achievements and excited about her journey.
- Support your Girl Scout's leader and appreciate the time she or he puts into volunteering to make Girl
Scouts happen. Thank your Girl Scout's leader on April 22, Girl Scout Leader Appreciation Day.
