"In Girl Scouts, you can change the world."

:: Benefits of Girl Scouting

The All-Girl Environment
In our society, girls and boys often face different expectations and learn different lessons. With boys around, girls are often allowed to expect less of themselves.

Studies show that in mixed groups, girls in general receive less adult attention than boys. And they face different challenges.

That's why today's girls need a place where they can take risks, learn from their mistakes without pressure from boys and have fun with other girls.

Female Role Models
A setting where female role models are the norm rather than the exception can help girls develop into competent, confident women. In Girl Scouts, girls find the guidance of a caring, trained female role model and the support system they need to face difficult situations and make informed decisions in a world full of challenges and choices.

The Girl Scout environment increases female performance, achievement, and leadership. It's no surprise that former Girl Scouts make up more than half the women in Congress and two-thirds of the women listed in Who's Who.

The Girl Scout Program

Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. The program provides school-age girls with opportunities to make friends, explore interests, gain self-confidence and learn life skills.

  • Girl Scouts is a place where girls discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together.

  • It's a place where girls feel free to express themselves, to excel and to experience new things.

  • It's a place where girls grow strong.

  • Girl Scouting helps guide girls on their journey toward a successful future.

  • Girl Scouting is for every girl, everywhere. Girls, ages 5-17, of all ethnicities, religions, socio-economic backgrounds and abilities are encouraged to join. The only requirement is that they accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Girl Scouts continues to have a non-discriminatory policy in all facets of the organization, including girl membership and volunteer participation.

  • Girl Scouting builds leaders, one girl at a time.

  • Through fun and enriching activities, in a safe and supportive environment, girls are empowered to believe in themselves and in their potential.

  • Girl Scouting opens up a world of opportunity for girls.

  • In partnership with adult volunteers, girls explore interests, envision their future and learn to make a difference in their community. From computers to theater arts, architecture to environmental education, science to technology, girls have fun while learning and earning badges, Try-its, and Interest Project Awards (IPAs), gaining skills and self-confidence along the way.
