:: Types of Troops
While the majority of Girl Scouts meet in a traditional troop
setting, there are other innovative programs available to girls for whom traditional troops are not accessible.
Traditional Troop
A traditional troop has at least two adult leaders who have registered as members
of Girl Scouts of the U.S.A. and meet regularly with a group of girls over a long period of time.
Troops can meet weekly, every other
week, or monthly. They can meet after school, in the evenings, or on weekends. Each troop needs a minimum of two adult volunteers
present at all Girl Scout activities.
Co-op Troop
A co-op troop is one in which registered parents/guardians
take turns working with girls. Each troop decides on its own leadership schedule.
Interest
Groups
An interest group meets regularly over a period of time to learn about specific topics.
Individual Girl Scouts
An individually registered Girl Scout works on badges and incentives both alone
and in groups. She can register for council-wide events, a council-sponsored resident camp or a day camp in a local neighborhood.
Troop Mailbox
Girls in Troop Mailbox are individually registered as Girl
Scouts and receive 6 mailings per year with program ideas that can be completed on an individual basis. They are also encouraged
to participate in the council-wide events.
As with all Girl Scout programs, adult support is an important aspect
of the Troop Mailbox program. Registration is $20.00 per year. For more information about Troop Mailbox please contact Terese
Miller at (626) 445-7771 extension 318, or e-mail tmiller@gsmwvc.org.
Pathway to Promise Troop
Pathway to Promise
is a fully funded troop program for girls who attend schools in underserved communities where traditional troops are unavailable.
The program provides fully trained, bilingual (Spanish-speaking) program leaders for bi-weekly after school troop
meetings. For more information about the Pathway to Promise Program, please contact Elizabeth Salcido at (626) 453-0253, ext.
103 or e-mail esalcido@gsmwvc.org.
"Juliettes" Girl Scouting Program
Juliettes are the new,
cool way that girls can grow strong in Girl Scouting! Juliettes are individual Girl Scouts who work closely with a parent
or other special adult in their life to learn and grow as only a Girl Scout can.
They may be girls who are waiting
to participate in a Girl Scout troop in their neighborhood, or girls whose busy schedules do not permit them to take part
in weekly troop meetings. Juliettes can earn awards, do activities in their Girl Scout handbook and badge books and sign up
for and participate in local and council activities.
Through the Juliettes Program girls have the opportunity to participate in many activities, such as
selling Girl Scout Cookies and earning badges and awards. All registered Juliettes will receive a Program and Training News booklet twice a year, invitations
to all of our special events, a monthly newsletter, and the opportunity to attend a Juliettes group meeting once a month.
The cost to participate is $60.00
per year. This fee includes the $10.00 GSUSA membership fee, program supplies and any badges or awards earned by your daughter.
If you are interested
in having your daughter become a Juliette or if you would like further information please contact Aleta McMurray, amcmurray@gsmwvc.org, (626) 445-7771, ext. 319.
