Today's Girls, Tomorrow's Future: The Campaign for Girl Scouts - Mt. Wilson Vista Council Since late 2003, Girl Scouts - Mt.
Wilson Vista Council has been engaged in its first ever major campaign aimed at raising funds to renovate three program centers, the Council Service Center, and to provide enhanced troop camping programs for girls.
Thus far, $2.4 million has been raised toward the $3.5 million Today’s Girls, Tomorrow’s
Future campaign goal, which has recently resulted in the completion of much needed upgrades to The San Gabriel Program Center and Camp Mariposa in Altadena. Last fall, the council received a Challenge Grant from Weingart Foundation to help
raise the funds needed for the next phase - renovation of the Montrose Program Center.
The $250,000 grant was matched in April thanks to the generosity of many individuals, foundations and corporations. Work
will begin soon on a total makeover of the facility, additional restrooms, improved access for those with disabilities, a
rear deck and fully landscaped exterior. The council has owned the three program centers for many
years, during which time there has never been a major renovation. Upgrades of these facilities have and will dramatically
impact Girl Scouting in the San Gabriel Valley for years to come.
Girl membership has increased
significantly at Mt. Wilson Vista Council, which is now serving nearly 9,000 girls.
With this increase,
the Board of Directors recognized the urgent need to upgrade the program centers and the Council Service Center in Arcadia
to better meet the growing program needs of girls and families now and into the future.
These improvements
will allow for expanded Girl Scout programs, troop activities, volunteer and community events, enhanced volunteer training opportunities, as well as ensuring access for those of all abilities. In order to meet these needs, the council still
needs to raise $1 million. For more information about
the council’s landmark facility upgrade campaign, please contact Susan Galeas, Development Director, at (626) 445-7771,

Partnership Campaign
Each year, Girl Scouts – Mt. Wilson Vista Council relies
on the generous support of caring friends in the community, including Girl Scout families, to help the council provide the
essential services and programs that make Girl Scouting possible in the San Gabriel Valley.
Council provided services
include: • volunteer training and support, • council-sponsored programs for girls, • day camps, troop program resources, • maintenance and operations of council program
centers, • administrative support, • and financial assistance for girls in need.
Contributions from Girl Scout families offset many of the costs the council incurs providing these valuable services on
an annual basis to the over 9,000 girls the council serves.
To provide one year of Girl Scouts, the
actual cost to the council is $250 per girl. Through the cookie sale, girls themselves raise about 60% of the funding needed. The other 40% is raised through grants from foundations and
corporations, the United Way, and from contributions from individuals in the community.
Once a year, the
council asks Girl Scout families to make a voluntary, tax-deductible donation. Families are asked to make their annual contribution
when they register their daughter in Girl Scouts.
It is important to note that the entire $10 membership registration
fee is submitted to GSUSA to support national Girl Scout program development and provide Girl Scout activity insurance.
All monies raised through the annual Family Partnership Campaign remain here in the San Gabriel Valley; none is
returned to GSUSA. The suggested gift is $75; however, all gifts are greatly appreciated and families are encouraged to be
as generous as they can -- no amount is too little or too much.
Troops also directly benefit from their families’
generosity. Troops with combined gifts of $75 or more, received by the council campaign deadline each December, earn a Family
Partnership Voucher worth 10% of total troop donations.
Family Partnership Vouchers can be redeemed for council
store merchandise, membership registration, or council-sponsored program events.
Donations received after the
campaign deadline are always appreciated, but do not count toward the troop voucher. If you have any
questions, please contact Cheryl Scannell-Pacheco, Development Assistant, at (626) 445-7771, ext. 305 or cpacheco@gsmwvc.org.
