Watch Senior Girl Scouts from Girl Scouts - Mt. Wilson Vista Council march in the Tournament
of Roses Parade. Gold Award Girl Scouts from Mt. Wilson Vista Council will welcome the world to Pasadena on New Year's
Day.
For the Tournament Troop girls, the journey down Colorado
Boulevard began in the fall with an application process, followed by weeks of practice. The chance to appear in a parade that
is watched by millions of people around the world is a singular honor that is only available to Gold Award recipients from Girl Scouts - Mt. Wilson Vista Council.
The Gold Award is the highest honor earned in Girl Scouting.
Girls who have earned or filed their intent to complete their Gold Award are eligible, along with Eagle Scouts from the San
Gabriel Valley Boy Scout Council, to be part of the esteemed Tournament Troop. The selections took place in early October
and the Troop began training for their 5.5 mile walk down Colorado Boulevard early in November.
Training consisted
of walking for miles while carrying large poles, to prepare for their duty of carrying the banners that announce the award-winning
float entries.
2008 will mark the 24th year that Gold Award Girl Scouts have participated in the parade
and this year the troop will feature 100 Girl Scouts. The troop will consist of members from Girl Scouts - Mt. Wilson Vista
Council and its merging sister councils.
On parade day, the Troop also performs the Flag Raising Ceremony at Tournament House to begin the day’s festivities.
